Reread Jingo by Terry Pratchett again for like the seventy-fifth time.  Love it!  The Patrician is hot, yo.

Haven't been posting because RL is crazy.

Read Dedication by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus.  It was okay, but not as good as their last book.  Parts of this one was like reading a chick flick.  I will admit, the ending was quite satisfying.

Read The Left Hard of Darkness by Ursula Le Guin and I am American (And So Can You!) by Stephen Colbert.  I guess "varied" would be a good way to characterize my reading.

Now looking for a beta for my reel_heroes fic, so that I can get that done and posted and can go back to my Nathan/Sylar fics.  Not to mention all the other WIPs sitting on my hard drive.

Read The Abstinence Teacher by Tom Perrotta.   I really liked it up until the end, and which point it, well, ended.  It just ended.  Right there.  Definitely not the book to read right after you've seen No Country For Old Men.

Real life has been insane, and I haven't been updating like I should.  I signed up to do a Heroes fic based on Memento.  I've been working on it instead of my 10+ WIPs.  Also, re-read Thud! by Pratchett, read From a Buick 8 by Stephen King (usually I love his stuff, but that book should have been a freakin' short story, not a 350+ page novel.  There was not enough story to cover that many words.  I'm saying that, and I loved It.) , and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.  I really enjoyed that one; it was much better than The Kite Runner.  I also tried to read Archangel by Sharon Shinn.  I read about 360 pages, but it was too bad to finish.  "But Alice," you might say if you were reading this, but no-one is so you wouldn't, "how could you read 360 pages of a 390 page novel and not finish it?"  The answer is because it was bad.  It keep tricking me.  It keep looking like it was about to get good, but then it didn't, and after so long I was too angry to finish.  So I stopped.

Yes, I know I'm nuts.  Look at the name I picked for my journal.

I should be posting fic soon.

Real life calls, I must go.

Yesterday, I finished Dark Reflections by Samuel Delany.  It was a fantastic book.  I picked it up because it was mislabeled scifi, but man, I'm glad I did.  It was quite a contrast to the last book I read.  The last one was about a wizard using magic to fight the forces of darkness in modern-day Chicago, and parts of the book dragged.  This book is about a man writing poetry and aging, and I couldn't put it down because it was so enjoyable to read.  The m/m sex was just a bonus.

Finished Storm Front: Book One of the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.  It was okay.  I enjoyed the fantasy world with its own rules that the author created.  I image that's what most people liked about the book.  It suffered a bit from having too many situations were the main character deliberately withheld information from other characters because it was "for the best," when as I reader I couldn't see that it was for the best and could clearly see that it was a set up for something to happen later.

But I'll give Butcher the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to first-novel snags.  I'll probably read the next one to and see if it's better.

Reading it, I can see why someone would think that it would make a good TV show for SciFi.  I don't understand why it didn't make a good show . . . oh, wait, SciFi Channel.  Of course.

Finished Darkly Dreaming Dexter on audiobook.  I probably wouldn't have finished it if I hadn't brought it with me on a 3+ hour car trip.  Once you dedicate that much time to something, you might as well finish it.  It wasn't bad, it just had lousy prose (which was the point) and flat characters (which was also the point).  So . . . it was good at being what it is, and what is was is a first-person account by a character who can't delve into other characters or himself and who enjoys trite turns of phrase.

I'm including the books tag even though, strictly speaking, I didn't read it.

Just finished Rant by Chuck Palahnuik.  Interesting read (as is, like, everything by him).  I enjoyed it.  Not my favorite, but I'm sure I'm going to be re-reading it soon.

Now have three completed first drafts on my hard drive, as well as a number of WIPs.  So far they are all Heroes, because that is my current obsession.  Next step is rewrites and then the mother of all beta searches.
